Pearly Spurtle 2026: Pearl Beach Celebrates Australia’s First Festival of Porridge

Nov 4, 2026

From a small seaside village on the NSW Central Coast to the world stage in Scotland, the inaugural Pearly Spurtle – Festival of Porridge has become an extraordinary community success story. HolidayCo Pearl Beach was proud to be a sponsor of this unique event.

On Saturday 8 August 2026, the picturesque village of Pearl Beach came alive with Scottish music, tartan, delicious food and plenty of community spirit as hundreds of visitors gathered for Australia’s first Festival of Porridge.

Held at the Pearl Beach Memorial Community Hall, the inaugural Pearly Spurtle was a sell-out success, attracting visitors, competitors and national media attention to one of the Central Coast’s most beautiful coastal destinations.

For HolidayCo Pearl Beach, supporting this wonderful event was a natural fit with our commitment to the local community and promoting Pearl Beach as a destination for every season.

A Taste of Scotland on the Central Coast

Inspired by Scotland’s famous Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championships, the Pearly Spurtle brought a distinctly Scottish tradition to the Australian coastline.

The festival featured traditional and creative porridge-making competitions, Scottish dancing, bagpipes, delicious food and family-friendly entertainment.

Visitors enjoyed gourmet porridge creations, traditional bacon butties and a wonderful atmosphere as the normally quiet village embraced the festivities.

Organised by the Pearly Spurtle committee with the support of the Pearl Beach Progress Association, the event demonstrated what can be achieved when a passionate local community comes together.

From Pearl Beach to World Champion

One of the greatest success stories to emerge from the inaugural Pearly Spurtle was Australian porridge-making champion Robert Reid.

After winning the Australian title at Pearl Beach, Robert travelled to Carrbridge, Scotland, to compete against some of the world’s finest porridge makers at the Golden Spurtle World Porridge Championships.

In an extraordinary achievement, Robert won the prestigious Specialty Dish category with his inventive porridge cannoli, putting both Australia and Pearl Beach on the international stage.

What began as a quirky community festival on the Central Coast had produced an international champion in its very first year.

Congratulations to Robert on this remarkable achievement!
